The crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. at Ashby and Regent Street, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said. A Scanner reader who was in the area as police were leaving [asked TBS](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/tips/) about what happened. She found police cruisers blocking the street and one officer taking down yellow caution tape. "I really hope it wasn't a pedestrian strike," she wrote. He remained at the scene for the investigation. The woman, a 54-year-old Berkeley resident, was walking south in the crosswalk when the driver hit her, police said. As a result of the crash, she flew about 10 feet through the air, according to early reports. The [Berkeley Fire Department](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-fire-department/) rushed the woman to Highland Hospital "Code 3," with lights and sirens.
