The incident began just after 6 p.m. when an unhoused person pushing a shopping cart in the street hit a passing car, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said in response to a Scanner inquiry. A passenger in that car who opened the door then sustained injuries when a driver in a white Honda collided with him or his stopped vehicle, police said. The Honda driver then jumped out of the car and ran from the scene, and the Honda rolled forward and hit a parked AC Transit bus at Ashby Avenue and Adeline Street, authorities said. Police ultimately determined that the Honda had been stolen. The driver has not been located. The driver whose passenger was injured took him to a nearby hospital for help. The injured man ended up at Highland Hospital, the regional trauma center, but was expected to survive, police said. There were no injuries reported in relation to the AC Transit bus.
