The collision happened shortly before 3 p.m. on Telegraph Avenue at Haste Street. The cyclist was heading south against traffic when he attempted to squeeze between the curb and a northbound pickup truck, BPD said. He wobbled and fell off the bike, at which point the driver hit him. [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) have now taped off the area for an investigation and called in the department's Fatal Accident Investigation Team. Witnesses said the cyclist was neither conscious nor breathing at the scene, according to radio dispatches reviewed by The Scanner. He had sustained a skull fracture and it was unknown whether he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Telegraph Avenue is now closed from Dwight Way to Haste Street for the investigation.
