# Berkeley police investigate sexual battery on College Ave.

A man walking home near [UC Berkeley](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/uc-berkeley-crime/) was sexually assaulted by a stranger overnight Saturday on College Avenue, authorities report.

The assailant — described as a Black man, 20-30 years old, 5 foot 10, in a black beanie cap, gray hooded top and black jeans — tried to make conversation and then pulled the victim into a driveway, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said Monday morning.

The sexual battery, which police classified as the intent to commit rape, took place in the 2300 block of College Avenue near Bancroft Way at 1:50 a.m. 

The victim was identified as a Berkeley man in his 20s. Authorities said they did not know if he is a [UC Berkeley](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/uc-berkeley-crime/) student.

The sex crime was reported to Berkeley police after the fact, authorities said. UC Berkeley [put out an alert](https://berkeley.apparmor.com/notifications/CAP/?id=196668&t=594167829&ref=berkeleyscanner.com) about it Monday morning.
