# Berkeley police investigate possible gunfire near Cal

Authorities investigated a report of possible gunfire near [UC Berkeley](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/uc-berkeley-crime/) early Tuesday morning.

Officers arrived in the area at about 2 a.m. and found no signs of a shooting.

Berkeley's emergency dispatch center received the report a few minutes before 2 a.m., according to radio traffic reviewed live by The Scanner.

The caller told police they heard what sounded like 10 "loud reports" at Durant and College avenues, in the [Southside neighborhood](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/southside-berkeley/) just a block south of campus.

Police only received one call about the sound and UC Berkeley's [ShotSpotter](https://www.soundthinking.com/law-enforcement/leading-gunshot-detection-system/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) gunfire detection system registered no gunshots in the area, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said over the radio.
