# Pedestrian rushed to Highland after Claremont, Ashby crash

A pedestrian was taken to Highland Hospital on Wednesday evening after a driver struck him at a busy intersection in Berkeley, authorities report.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. at Claremont and Ashby avenues, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said.

The Berkeley Fire Department rushed the pedestrian to Highland "Code 3," with lights and sirens, according to early reports.

He was 20-30 years old and remained conscious after the collision, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and the roadway is now open, according to BPD.

No other details, including directions of travel, were immediately available.

In July, a [pedestrian was killed](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2025/07/09/traffic-safety/berkeley-crash-driver-hits-pedestrian-claremont-uplands/) further west on Claremont Avenue after a driver struck him in the roadway.

The city has plans on the books to make changes to the street to improve [traffic safety](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/traffic-safety/) conditions.
