# Berkeley had 3 earthquakes in just 16 hours

A magnitude 2.9 earthquake hit Berkeley on Monday evening, the third to shake the city in just 16 hours.

The evening quake's epicenter was near Claremont Avenue and Tunnel Road next to John Muir Elementary School.

The earthquake was recorded [just after 6:20 p.m.](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/nc75240717/executive?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) with a depth of 4.4 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The day's significant seismic activity began just before 3 a.m. when a [magnitude 4.3 earthquake](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2025/09/22/uc-berkeley-crime/uc-berkeley-earthquake-magnitude-4-6/) just south of [UC Berkeley](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/uc-berkeley-crime/) woke much of the Bay Area. 

A [magnitude 2.6](https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/nc75240537/executive?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) earthquake followed at about 8 a.m. also near Claremont and Tunnel.
