On Thursday night, Berkeley police and firefighters were dispatched to the Berkeley Marina to investigate reports of a driver in the water near Skates on the Bay. Multiple people called 911 to report the car in the water just before 7 p.m., according to emergency dispatches reviewed by The Scanner. Witnesses said a woman in her 40s had gotten out of the car and began walking eastbound on University Avenue, leaving the car submerged, authorities said. [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) and firefighters contacted the woman and made sure no one else was in the vehicle. The [Berkeley Fire Department](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-fire-department/) also sent rescue divers to ensure that was the case.
