We did check in with the registrar of voters today. The current estimate from Alameda County is that about 700,000 ballots were cast in this week's election. That would be a 73% turnout, compared to 81% in 2020. That puts the expected estimate for Berkeley ballots at about 55,000. On election night, we reported results for about 233,000 ballots, with nearly 18,000 from Berkeley. Yesterday's update from the ROV only added about 5,000 ballots to the county-wide results — with only about 100 of those from Berkeley. We'll update our election posts (links below) as new numbers come in. A new round of results is expected today. We hope our election FAQ answered a lot of your process questions but, if things are still unclear, let us know. Spoiler alert: We do not know why the local count is so slow. According to the county, it's received at least 450,000 mail-in ballots. But, as of Thursday evening, only 168,000 of them had been counted (in addition to the 70,000 counted on Election Day).
