# Berkeley High student pistol-whipped after school

A Berkeley High student was pistol-whipped on his way to football practice Tuesday afternoon, authorities report. 

Police said the incident was brazen and unusual for Berkeley.

A father called BPD on Tuesday to report the incident at about 4:20 p.m., [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said in response to a Scanner inquiry.

He said his son was on the Milvia Street side of the high school near Kittredge Street when someone who appeared to be a teenage boy walked up and pistol-whipped him. 

The culprit reportedly took property from the student and ran eastbound on Kittredge, police said.

Berkeley police officers flooded the downtown area and did a thorough search for the assailant, including in the BART station, but they were unable to find him.

Police said they do have leads on his identity and, at this point, do not believe he attends Berkeley High School.

The investigation is ongoing.

**Update, Oct. 23:** On Friday, Youth Services detectives arrested a 15-year-old Oakland boy in connection with this case on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon on school grounds and being a minor in possession of a concealed weapon. No additional information was available due to privacy laws that protect minors.
