A newly discovered recording on Alyx Herrmann's cellphone captured the violent struggle that preceded her murder, prosecutors said this week.

Authorities found the recording Sunday — a month after her murder trial began.

The Scanner was the only news outlet in court this week for the bombshell announcement.

This was a tough week but Alyx's story deserves to be told. We will be in court Monday and Tuesday as well.

Friday morning was a bit lighter, as we were interviewed on camera about [World News Day](https://worldnewsday.org/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) — "a global awareness campaign to amplify the value of fact-based journalism."
