The 17-year-old, who was bleeding from the mouth after the crash, was taken to Highland "Code 2" (following normal traffic laws) for treatment. Overall, injury collisions involving cyclists were down slightly last year compared to 2022, according to [BPD's Transparency Hub data portal](https://bpd-transparency-initiative-berkeleypd.hub.arcgis.com/pages/traffic-safety?ref=berkeleyscanner.com). They were also down compared to pre-pandemic levels. Since 2017, the city has averaged about 90 collisions involving cyclists annually.
