Some breaking news just now: Three people have been detained following a violent robbery near UC Berkeley in which a man holding a baby was reportedly pistol-whipped, according to preliminary information.

One note: The ROV told supervisors during the meeting that the election could be held as soon as July 30\. 

We learned after publication that, based on the adopted schedule for the upcoming vote to set the election date, the earliest it could happen is Aug. 13\. We updated the story with that info.

We also heard from a few diligent readers last night that links weren't working in our last newsletter for a period of time. That was due to an issue with our host, Ghost, which fixed the problem shortly before midnight.
