# Intruder fires gun during event Sunday morning in Berkeley

An uninvited guest who was asked to leave a gathering Sunday morning at a southwest Berkeley home came back with a gun and shot into an unoccupied vehicle, authorities said.

Police said the incident happened shortly before 9:40 a.m. in the 2900 block of Stanton Street between Russell Street and Ashby Avenue.

The intruder had been asked to leave after displaying aggressive behavior, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said in response to a Scanner inquiry.

He came back "wielding a firearm," police said, and fired through the rear windshield of a vehicle parked nearby before driving off. 

No one was hurt, but BPD said the department "has initiated a thorough investigation into the matter."

As of April 8, Berkeley has had [13 shootings](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2024/04/06/shootings/berkeley-shootings-gunfire-map-2024/) in 2024 with six people wounded. 

Last year at this time, [six shootings](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/12/06/shootings/berkeley-shootings-gunfire-map-2023/) had left one man wounded.
