Instead of writing a public safety news article today, I'm writing about press freedom.

That's because Alameda County's elected district attorney, Pamela Price, refused to let me into her official press conference this morning.

As a veteran Bay Area reporter who has been in journalism for 20 years, covering many institutions and agencies, I have never experienced anything like it.

Here's my first-person account.

[DA Pamela Price barred me from her press conference: First-personIn recent months, Price’s office removed me from her media email list without explanation. Today, she refused to let me into her press conference.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/size/w256h256/format/jpeg/2022/09/The-Berkeley-Scanner_Icon_Color-1.jpg)The Berkeley ScannerEmilie Raguso![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/2023/11/pamela-price-office-1.jpg)](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/11/30/editors-desk/pamela-price-barred-me-from-her-press-conference-first-person/)

This was disturbing to say the least and I'm in touch with several First Amendment and journalism organizations about it. I will certainly report back.
