# Person struck and killed on tracks at North Berkeley BART

The North Berkeley BART station was closed Tuesday night after a person was struck and killed on the tracks, authorities report. 

Limited details were available as of publication time.

The incident happened at about 11:05 p.m.

BART [initially reported](https://twitter.com/SFBARTalert?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) "a major delay at North Berkeley in the Berryessa and Richmond directions due to a major medical emergency" just before 11:15 p.m. on X (formerly Twitter).

BART has advised passengers to use [AC Transit](https://www.actransit.org/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) bus service, lines 72 and 51B, to reach their destinations.

Just after 11:20 p.m., BART posted on X that the North Berkeley BART station was closed. There have been no subsequent updates.

The Scanner has asked BART for any information it can share and will update this story if it becomes available.

**Update, Wednesday, Nov. 8, 12:08 a.m.** BART reported over its dispatch radio that it was re-opening the North Berkeley BART station.

**Update, 3:15 a.m.** BART provided a brief statement about the incident, saying that the BART Operations Control Center notified BART police about a person under a train at the North Berkeley station at about 11:05 p.m.

BART PD and the Berkeley Police Department responded to the station and evacuated the involved train. The station was closed just after 11:20 p.m., BART spokesman James Allison said.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:26 p.m. and the Alameda County coroner took possession of the body about an hour later, Allison said.

BART reviewed station video, which "revealed there was no foul play," he said.

Allision said the station reopened just after 1:30 a.m.
