# Man, 26, shot in Berkeley

Berkeley police are investigating a shooting Tuesday that sent a man to Highland Hospital just after 3:30 p.m., according to preliminary reports.

Police found evidence of gunfire on Sacramento Street near Oregon and Russell streets and then responded to Highland to investigate reports about a gunshot victim who turned up there.

As of 4:10 p.m., the male victim was being treated for one or two gunshot wounds to the lower extremities, an officer reported over the radio.

A reader told The Scanner that southbound Sacramento Street was closed as of shortly before 4 p.m.: "yellow tape, many cop cars, neighbors gawking."

There have now been [24 confirmed shootings in Berkeley](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/03/26/shootings/berkeley-shootings-gunfire-map-2023/) this year, wounding seven people. None to date have been fatal.

On Monday, police arrested a Berkeley man on suspicion of attempted murder after he [shot an apartment inspector in the leg](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/09/19/uc-berkeley-crime/berkeley-police-tenant-requested-repair-before-shooting/) and then claimed he believed there had been a break-in attempt, according to BPD.
