# Road rage near Cal: Driver with gun threatens scooter rider

A driver spooked a scooter rider near UC Berkeley on Tuesday evening, brandishing a gun and threatening to kill him, authorities report.

The incident happened shortly after 5 p.m. near Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue, right by the UC Berkeley campus, [Berkeley police](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said.

According to police, the scooter rider was using the bike lane to make his way toward campus when the driver waved a pistol at him and threatened to kill him.

The driver was in a blue Jeep Cherokee with California plates and was described as a white man, 50-60 years old with a thin build, wearing a green T-shirt and sunglasses.

There was also a white woman in the car, 40-50 years old with a heavy build, Berkeley police said.

The victim took refuge on the UC Berkeley campus and called police. 

Authorities did not immediately know his age or whether he was a student.

Berkeley and UC Berkeley police officers searched the area but were unable to find the Jeep.
