# Berkeley cyclist, 75, sustains moderate injuries in crash

A box truck driver struck a cyclist in Berkeley on Friday morning, sending him to Highland Hospital with moderate injuries, authorities report.

The collision happened shortly after 8 a.m., the [Berkeley Police Department](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said, and closed the roadway for a period of time during the investigation.

The driver and cyclist, a 75-year-old Berkeley man, were southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way when the collision happened, police said. 

According to BPD, the cyclist, who had been closer to the curb line, turned in front of the truck on MLK south of Blake "for unknown reasons."

That's when the collision occurred, police said. 

The cyclist was taken to Highland Hospital with moderate injuries, police said.

Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.

The driver remained at the scene for the investigation.

As of Friday afternoon, the roadway had fully reopened.
