[DA Pamela Price: ‘We stand firmly behind Chief Otis Bruce’The Alameda County DA’s office has alleged that a Marin County report about Bruce was “false” but has not substantiated those claims.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/size/w256h256/format/jpeg/2022/09/The-Berkeley-Scanner_Icon_Color-1.jpg)Emilie RagusoThe Berkeley Scanner![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/2023/07/pamela-price-otis-bruce-jr-BI6A5978.jpg)](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/07/13/courts/da-pamela-price-otis-bruce-jr/) We continue to seek additional information. Speaking of [DA Pamela Price](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/pamela-price/), some of you asked us about today's East Bay Times story on a recent recall committee filing. It's worth noting that the official recall campaign does not actually start in earnest until the committee files what's called a notice of intent. That has not happened yet. Rest assured: We will certainly let you know when it does and keep you apprised of progress. [Support The Scanner](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/#/portal/signup) Last night we covered a serious crash at Virginia and Oxford streets that sent a motorcycle rider to the hospital. [Berkeley crash: Motorcycle rider in critical, 1 arrestedThe vehicle occupants fled the scene, police said. One of them returned and was arrested. The investigation is ongoing.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/size/w256h256/format/jpeg/2022/09/The-Berkeley-Scanner_Icon_Color-1.jpg)Emilie RagusoThe Berkeley Scanner![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/2023/07/IMG_5806.jpg)](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/07/12/traffic-safety/berkeley-crash-motorcycle-rider-critical-1-arrested/) Please note: We inadvertently swapped the directions of travel of the driver — who reportedly ran a stop sign — and the rider. The story has now been fixed and we've added a correction. Many thanks to all of you who alerted us to the error. We are still attempting to learn more about the crash and the man who was arrested as a result. We do not know the identity of the rider. Many of you told us that this intersection is known to be dangerous. We are taking a closer look and may have more to say. On Tuesday night, we spent several hours at the Berkeley City Council meeting. The Daily Cal and KTVU were also in the house. We wanted to see what officials might say about the city's plans to lease the Super 8 motel to serve as interim housing for unsheltered individuals now living in northwest Berkeley. [Berkeley aims to lease Super 8, remove last big encampmentThe city hopes to move the residents of northwest Berkeley homeless encampments into “interim housing” at Super 8.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/size/w256h256/format/jpeg/2022/09/The-Berkeley-Scanner_Icon_Color-1.jpg)Emilie RagusoThe Berkeley Scanner![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/2023/07/IMG_8278-1.jpg)](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/07/12/crime/berkeley-lease-super-8-homeless-encampments-harrison/) The item was on the consent calendar, so they didn't say much. But we live-tweeted many of the meeting highlights, including public comments opposing Fukushima wastewater discharge and the council vote to [decriminalize magic mushrooms](https://twitter.com/BerkeleyScanner/status/1678951407658086402?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) and other psychedelics (personal use only, no sales or sharing). Yes, it was a very Berkeley meeting, between the "no nukes" and the pro-psychedelics crowd. Check out [our Twitter feed](https://twitter.com/BerkeleyScanner?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) for details. If you don't have a Twitter account, you will not be able to see everything. This includes Twitter threads, such as the magic mushroom thread above, which includes multiple tweets in a row. This is a major bummer, and a new development in the past week or so. You can thank Elon Musk. Our tweets also appear on [Mastodon](https://journa.host/@berkeleyscanner?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) and we're checking out [Threads](https://www.threads.net/@berkeleyscanner?ref=berkeleyscanner.com), which Facebook launched last week. But we only have so much time. Also, just a heads up: We will be out of town from Friday through Monday for a family event. We will largely be offline and unavailable due to family commitments. ### In case you missed it [Otis Bruce Jr. investigation found misconduct at former job“The only person who made me feel unwelcome as a person of color was Mr. Bruce,” one person wrote, “by repeatedly implying to me that my coworkers were racist against me when in fact that was a lie.”![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/size/w256h256/format/jpeg/2022/09/The-Berkeley-Scanner_Icon_Color-1.jpg)Emilie RagusoThe Berkeley Scanner![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/8e/3b/8e3bb516-9b88-46c2-aa85-566ed9c3647c/content/images/2023/07/otis-bruce-jr-marin-county.jpg)](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/07/11/courts/otis-bruce-jr-marin-county-da-misconduct-investigation/) [Police: Witnesses likely saved life of Berkeley burn victimBART police arrested Bradley Marcrum on suspicion of fare evasion.
