### Berkeley public safety events

For those of you interested in connecting with others in Berkeley who are concerned about public safety, two Zoom events are coming up just for you.

On Thursday night, **Terry Taplin** is holding a [public safety forum](https://twitter.com/TaplinTerry/status/1667305012199030784?ref=berkeleyscanner.com). There may well be a West Berkeley focus, but the event is open to everyone. Here's the [Zoom link](inyurl.com/CMTTsafety61523). You can also [RSVP](https://t.co/pKkW6sIfbe?ref=berkeleyscanner.com). We are juggling a few things but hope to be there.

The next event is set for Wednesday, June 21, when **SafeBears** will host former Alameda County Assistant District Attorney **Butch Ford** as he talks about "the changing nature of crime and punishment in Alameda County, and what we can do to make Berkeley safe."

Ford resigned from the Alameda County DA's office in May and now works for the San Francisco district attorney's office, where [quite a few AlCo folks](https://twitter.com/BerkeleyScanner/status/1664786992461381632?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) have now landed.

Ford's [resignation letter went viral](https://twitter.com/BerkeleyScanner/status/1662245514773921798?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) after we were the first to share it on Twitter.

If you missed our story on SafeBears, [check it out here](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/04/18/uc-berkeley-crime/uc-berkeley-parents-safebears-student-safety/). The group, which was founded by Cal parents but is open to everyone, recently secured its nonprofit status.

SafeBears hopes to launch a monthly webinar series so be sure to [sign up for SafeBears](https://www.safebears.org/?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) if you'd like to know more.
