# 2 taken to Highland after 3-car crash at Gilman, 6th in Berkeley

Two people were taken to Highland Hospital on Monday afternoon after a three-car crash in northwest Berkeley.

Reports about the collision came in Monday just before 2:25 p.m., the [Berkeley Police Department](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said. 

It was described as an unknown injury collision with "several people down in the street."

According to the preliminary investigation, a driver sped through the red light southbound on Sixth Street and struck a car that was in the intersection heading east on Gilman Street, police said.

The eastbound driver then veered off and struck a northbound vehicle, BPD said. Airbags deployed in two of the cars.

All three drivers remained at the scene. Three people were injured, but just two of them — both from the same vehicle — required hospital transport.

All three cars were towed from the scene, police said.

[Injury collisions were up 16%](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/2023/04/27/traffic-safety/berkeley-traffic-data-transparency-hub/) in the last quarter of 2022, according to BPD's Transparency Hub. There were 76 injury collisions involving vehicles over the last three months of the year.
