**Update, May 2:** Authorities have identified the man whose body was found in the water near the Berkeley Marina on Monday as 57-year-old Vittorio Marianecci of Florida, police said Tuesday.

The Berkeley Police Department said the body showed no signs of trauma and the Alameda County coroner's office has taken over the case.

He was last seen Wednesday in Florida and was supposed to fly to Seattle but never arrived, SFPD said.

Wine Business described Marianecci this week as the "[gregarious and highly-regarded brand ambassador](https://www.winebusiness.com/news/article/270529?ref=berkeleyscanner.com) in the United States for Italian wine producer Zenato."

"Marianecci built his reputation and his career by tirelessly traversing the country, meeting wine buyers, building relationships and making friends," the wine industry publication said this week in a story about how Marianecci had gone missing.

Marianecci's family tracked an Uber ride he took to the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center on Friday afternoon, Wine Business reported.

The Berkeley Police Department said a kitesurfer used his Apple watch to call for help Monday when he saw a body floating in the water just before 4:50 p.m.

The Berkeley Fire Department used its rescue boat to retrieve the body a few hundred yards south of the old Hs Lordships Restaurant at 199 Seawall Drive, BPD said.

BPD said the incident has no connection to the discovery of a woman's body in the same vicinity last month.

**Original story:** A man's body was found floating in the water near the Berkeley Marina on Monday, three weeks after a woman's body was found floating in the same general area, authorities report.

Berkeley police said a kitesurfer found the man's body in the San Francisco Bay and reported it shortly before 5 p.m.

The body was seen floating not far from the former location of Hs Lordships Restaurant, at the southernmost point of the marina on Seawall Drive.

The man appeared to be in his 50s and was not wearing a flotation device, according to preliminary information.

**The Berkeley Scanner was the first to report this incident.**

The Alameda County coroner's office was called to take custody of the body.

A death investigation is now underway, Berkeley police said.

No further details were immediately available.

The woman who was found deceased in the water in April was ultimately identified as Sophonia McLendon, 52, of El Cerrito.

As of this week, the Alameda County coroner's office said the woman's manner of death had not been determined pending test results.
