# UC Berkeley student tries to sell Nikes but is robbed at gunpoint

Two men with a gun stole a pair of Nikes from a UC Berkeley student who had arranged to sell them in a parking lot near campus on Monday morning, authorities report.

The incident happened just before 10:30 a.m. in the CVS parking lot at 2655 Telegraph Ave. near Derby Street, police said. 

The victim, a Cal student in his 20s, had arranged to sell his Nikes but the men who showed up to buy them robbed him instead, the [Berkeley Police Department](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/berkeley-police-department/) said in response to a Berkeley Scanner inquiry.

After the armed robbery, the men drove southbound on Telegraph in a silver sedan.

Limited descriptions were available as of publication time.

There were at least 74 robberies reported in Berkeley between Jan. 1 and March 23, the most recent date available, according to CrimeMapping.com.

Historically, Berkeley averaged about a robbery a day, but that number dropped during the pandemic.

This year has seen the city's robbery stats returning to historic levels.

About 20% of Berkeley's robberies have tended to involve a gun.
