# Magnitude 5.1 earthquake in San Jose shakes Berkeley

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake, followed by a magnitude 3.1 aftershock, hit 20 miles outside San Jose just after 11:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Some Berkeley residents said they felt the earthquake. Others said it was "barely noticeable."

The earthquakes were located in Seven Trees, California, in the southeast corner of Joseph D. Grant County Park.
