# Tesla driver strikes pedestrian north of UC Berkeley campus

A 75-year-old Berkeley man driving a Tesla hit a pedestrian near the Cal campus on Sunday afternoon, causing the pedestrian to land on the hood of the car before falling to the ground and chipping a tooth, authorities report.

The driver had been southbound on Euclid Avenue approaching Le Conte Avenue just after noon Sunday when the collision happened, according to Berkeley police.

BPD said the driver had stopped at the stop sign, then turned left from Euclid as the pedestrian, a 27-year-old Berkeley man, was using the crosswalk on the eastern side of Le Conte.

When the driver struck him, the pedestrian landed on the hood of the gray Tesla and fell to the ground, Berkeley police said.

The pedestrian was left with a scraped elbow, an injured leg and a chipped tooth, a witness to the immediate aftermath of the crash told The Berkeley Scanner.

The crash was loud, she told The Scanner, and sounded like multiple cars colliding.

BPD said the pedestrian also complained of dizziness but declined ambulance transport at the scene.

The driver was determined to have been at fault in the collision, BPD said.

The driver was not cited after the crash, police said.
