# Man shot in the leg outside West Berkeley liquor store

Police have responded to a shooting outside Lo-Cost Liquors in West Berkeley that left a man with a gunshot wound to the leg, authorities report.

The man turned up at a local emergency room seeking treatment after the shooting, which happened Saturday just before 10 p.m., Berkeley police said.

Officers responded to the hospital and the liquor store, at 2301 San Pablo Ave. (near Bancroft Way), to conduct the investigation.

Limited details were available but police said some kind of altercation led to the shooting in the liquor store parking lot. 

The victim initially got himself to Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley but was then taken to Highland Hospital, the regional trauma center, for treatment. 

He is expected to survive, authorities said.

The shooter left the area driving north on San Pablo Avenue, police said. No arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing. 

Berkeley has had [more than 40 shootings this year](https://www.berkeleyscanner.com/topic/shootings/), which left three people dead and approximately 16 wounded.
